Mental Health

Mental Health America reports that youth mental health is worsening. 60% of youth with depression did not receive any mental health treatment in 2017-2018.

From January to September 2020, 77,470 youth reported experiencing frequent suicidal ideation. As of 2018, suicide became the second leading cause of death in Black children aged 10-14, and the third leading cause of death in black adolescents aged 15-19. (National institute of mental health)

CFC is committed to ensuring that mental health services are available for students of color and their families.

Here are the following objectives on how CFC will address the mental health concerns in our community:

  • Reduce Mental Health Stigmas within the community by acknowledging, addressing, and combating challenges normally overlooked due to circumstance.

  • Promote mental health through advocacy, service and education.

  • Foster cooperative efforts with school personnel to support mental and emotional wellbeing.

CFC mental health initiative is headed by a License Professional Counselor who is motivated to bring change in our community. Partnerships are being made but most importantly the mental health challenges are now being addressed.
